Book Review: Making Ideas Happen by Scott Belsky

This book is said to be a godsend for creatives who are unproductive or fail to see their ideas through. Creatives are free flowing thinkers who don’t adhere to a set workflow — a note here, a scribble there, ideas jotted across 10 unfinished moleskine notebooks. A book like this had to be made and I’m glad Scott Belsky stepped up and tried to deliver. Ji Lee, Creative Director at Google Labs has been quoted as saying this book is, “ A Swiss army knife of ideas,” so I had to pick it up. But did this book deliver or is it just another piece of overpromised hype?

Video Interview with designer Jonas Jean of 180 Ronin

Exclusive interview with New York City apparel designer Jonas Jean by Pelenguino. Jonas discusses his art, influences and a more in-dept look at 180 Ronin as a brand. Jonas is an inspiring, creative and passionate person—with whom I’ve had the pleasure to collaborate with on past projects. I’m looking forward to seeing what other design’s this young gun conjures up in his laboratory.

“The Sandpit” – A short film by Aero Director, Sam O’Hare

The Sandpit is a day in the life of New York City, as seen in miniature scale. The details are amazing (For best viewing, check HD and watch in full screen mode.). The flying helicopters and construction machines look like something from hot wheels. After reading the making of, I was even more captivated by the production and scope of the project. The movie is inspired by Koyaanisqatsi ; which revels a look at modern life and its imbalances; both are great films. Enjoy the short film.

Interview with James Jirat Patradoon

I  came across the works of James Jirat Patradoon last year and it seems now I can’t surf the web without seeing his name mentioned. He is an amazing artist who brings so much life to his work. Patradoon’s gritty style is refreshing from all the shiny kid robot style art floating around the net (you know who you are, you hypebeast!). It would be great to see James pencil up a Frank Miller story, just wishful thinking.

He was interviewed by Design Federation in 2007 and it’s probably his best interview to date. You would never guess he draws with a Wacom. Check out all the pictures and link to an interview.

Video: Raghava KK: Five lives of an artist

Raghava’s inspiring tale of a cartoonist to painter, media darling to social outcast, and son to father humbly given at the TED conference. Being a graphic designer and seeing the phases I’ve gone through in my work, it’s always interesting to hear the tales of others and how our work changes as our experiences change.

Hubero Kororo designed this interactive CD cover

Hubero Kororo designed this interactive CD cover for the album called Pappeltalks by Andrea Neumann & Ivan Palacky.

When you pull the tab on the side to open the CD, an ink cartridge starts to leak and fills the front cover with purple ink; making every album unique to the owner. The artist Beck had also had a successful interactive cd called information. I wasn’t too fond of that cd (I do enjoy music by Beck) but it is worth owning just for the package design. Enjoy the video after the bump.
